4 Natural Ways to Get Rid of Cigarette Smoke Smell in the Car
Did you recently buy a car that was previously owned by a heavy smoker? Try these natural remedies to get rid of the cigarette smoke smell in the car.
1. Run an Ozone Generator
Many car detailing services use an ozone generator to get rid of the cigarette smoke smell in vehicles. Buy an ozone generator then let it run at full power for about thirty minutes. You should not be in the car while the generator is on.
Once the thirty minutes have passed, turn on the car fans and open the windows to air out the ozone gas. The ozone gas can eradicate the cigarette smell in your car via oxidization.
2. Place Odor Removing Bags in Your Car
These odor-removing bags contain natural, non-toxic minerals that will easily absorb the cigarette smoke smell in the car. Place a bag in your vehicle and let it sit there overnight. Most of the smell should disappear by the time you check the next morning.
3. Use a Cup of White Vinegar
Pour white distilled vinegar into two cups. Place one of these cups in the front seat cup holder and the other in the back seat cup holder. Leave them overnight in your car.
The acetic acid in the white vinegar will help eliminate the smoke smell. Distilled white vinegar typically contains 5% of acetic acid.
4. Spread Baking Soda in Your Car
You could also use baking soda as an alternative to white distilled vinegar. It may not have an immediate effect but baking soda can eventually get rid of the cigarette smell in your car because it’s an amphoteric compound.
Place a cup of baking soda in the cup holders and sprinkle a generous amount of baking soda on the carpet floor mat. Clear the powder away with a vacuum after a day or two has passed.
In addition to the above steps, make sure you thoroughly clean the interior of the car and neutralize the car’s air intake system.
