How to Get Rid of Skunk Smell Using Natural Home Remedies

Most of us know how notorious skunk odor is. A lot of people describe it as similar to the smell of rotten eggs. Thankfully, skunks don’t actively go about spraying people and pets. They will only do so if they sense danger. Here are our top suggestions for getting rid of skunk smell using natural home remedies.

1. Place a Bowl of Vinegar in the House

Vinegar is an unsung hero when it comes to home remedies. If parts of your house have been targeted by the skunk then one suggestion is to place a bowl of white vinegar in the affected rooms, even better if you can have the vinegar simmer for a bit to neutralize the skunk smell.

For outdoor areas, you could create a white vinegar solution and spray it directly onto the areas that have been sprayed by the skunk.

2. Wash Your Pet with DIY Soap Lather

Pets, especially dogs, are most often the victims of skunk sprays. If your poor dog got sprayed by a skunk then here is a DIY suggestion from the Healthline.

You can create a homemade lather mixture by combining 1 quart of 3 percent hydrogen peroxide, 1 teaspoon of baby shampoo, and 1/4 cup of baking soda. Lather the mixture onto your pet’s coat and rinse it off thoroughly after about five minutes. The hydrogen peroxide may bleach your pet’s fur so it’s important to not let the mixture sit for too long.

3. Use a Non-Toxic Odor Eliminator

For fast results, you could get a non-toxic odor eliminator to get rid of the skunk smell. The great thing about this product is that it can eliminate the skunk odor from many places. You can pour out the “salt” in shallow trays and let the product work its magic by absorbing the skunk smell.
