How to Get Rid of House Lizards Fast Using Home Remedies
Most lizards are harmless but their presence in a house could be unsightly and not something you want to put up with if there are many of them. If you want to get rid of the lizards and geckos in the house without killing them then here are some natural home remedies worth trying.
1. Get Rid of their Food Source
Lizards and geckos are most likely appearing in the house because they can easily find food inside. In most cases, food will be small insects like ants, roaches, and beetles. If you get rid of the household pests then the population of lizards inside the house will gradually disappear. The first step to this is to keep your house spotlessly clean. Make sure the floor is vacuumed regularly and food is stored away properly in containers with tight-sealing lids.
2. Find the Lizard’s Entry Points
Make it difficult for the lizards and geckos to enter by finding out how they are entering the house. You need to do a thorough examination because lizards are able to get through very tiny holes and gaps with their flexible bodies. There may be a number of follow-up steps, such as filling holes and cracks along the wall with caulk and installing weather-stripping to the sides of doors and windows.
3. Create a Natural Pepper Repellent
Lizards don’t like the scent of hot sauce like Tabasco. It’s not guaranteed to keep the lizards away from the house but spraying tabasco sauce solution near common entry points may deter some lizards from approaching. If you have some Tabasco or other hot sauces at home then mix it with some water and spray it outside next to doors and window panes.
4. Using Broken Egg Shells is a Myth
You may have already come across a few articles that suggest using broken egg shells to repel lizards. We, however, believe that this is a myth. There’s no conclusive evidence that lizards are deterred by the scent of egg shells. Instead, lizards might actually find them tasty.
As we suggested earlier, it’s not always a bad thing to have some lizard around the house as they are natural insect predators. They will help get rid of roaches and other household pests that are commonly found at home.
