4 Natural Ways to Safely Get Rid of Bats in the Attic

Bats

Have a small colony of bats that made your attic their new home? Try these four natural remedies to get rid of the bats safely.

How to Get Rid of Bats

1. Install an Ultrasonic Bat Repeller
Make the attic an undesirable place for the colony of bats by installing an ultrasonic bat repeller next to their roosting spot. These devices will create a chaotic environment for the bats and they will eventually go elsewhere.

2. Set up Bat Houses
Bats can make great outdoor neighbors because they eat up a lot of annoying insects like mosquitoes. You’ll want to chase out the bats from the attic but still keep them around. One good way of doing this is to set up a bat house in the backyard.

A good bat house will have a grooved surface that bats can easily cling onto. Bat houses should be mounted 8 to 12 feet high in a tree or under the roof eaves.

3. Scare Bats Away with Christmas Lights
Grab a Christmas light that flashes with random patterns and install it in your attic. Bats are adapted to low-light conditions so the Christmas lights could help scare them away.

4. Block their Entrance Points
Stand outside just before dusk and observe where the bats are entering and exiting from. You may need to do this for a couple of nights as the bats may be entering from multiple locations.

Once you have identified the entrances, cover them up with bat excluders. These one-way doors will allow bats to exit but prevent them from entering again.

Please note that bats are protected species in certain states, such as Florida, and it may be illegal to remove them during certain times of the year.
