Using Essential Oil to Get Rid of Gnats and Fruit Flies
Plenty of essential oils are unattractive to gnats and fruit flies. You can use them to repel the flies and give your space a naturally appealing smell at the same time. Although they do not kill the insects, they do a great job at keeping them off your space.
Peppermint is most people’s favorite essential oil to repel gnats and fruit flies. Other oils such as lavender, lemongrass, cinnamon, cedarwood, tea tree, citronella, geranium, rosemary, garlic, lemon and mint will work. You can use them separately or mix a number of them.
You can make a body spray with essential oils and this helps prevent bites from insects. It will also drive the insects away from the source of the smell. To make a repellent with essential oils, you will need a carrier oil such as almond, coconut, or olive. Please select a carrier oil with a mild scent to suppress the essential oil’s scent.
You can still burn the essential oils as candles or use them in a humidifier. Some people mix the oils with distilled water, alcohol, and a little Vodka and use the mixture as a spray around the house. These methods keep the aforementioned critters far away from your house as long as the smell is in the air.
