Some studies suggest that citronella isn’t very good at repelling mosquitoes at all, though. It’s used as the main ingredient in several insecticides, repellents, and even candles focused on combating mosquitoes, but it doesn’t have a particularly big impact on them.

Though if you’re looking for a great natural alternative to it, oil of lemon eucalyptus is great. It has a pleasant scent and will repel mosquitoes at a higher rate for a longer duration when present. It can also be used as a spray to coat the skin, making for a great way to avoid bites.
