Can You Compost Wood Ashes?

Yes, wood ash can be used in the compost heap. Wood ash would be considered a brown compost matter (source of carbon). We recommend only using a large amount for certain scenarios. For example, if you are trying to neutralize acidic soil then using wood ash may help as it is a highly alkaline material.

Make sure the wood ash has cooled down completely before you place it in the compost pile. Charcoal ashes should be avoided at all cost.
