Can You Compost Tea Bags?

Tea Bag Compost

Yes, you can compost tea bags although that would largely depend on the type of tea bag you are using. Tea bags would be considered green compost ingredients (source of nitrogen).

For example, its fine to use loose tea leaves in the compost. They will break down fairly quickly in the compost heap. Tea bags, on the other hand, will require some more investigating. Only tea bags that are made entirely of natural fiber can be used in compost heaps. Many tea bags, however, contain synthetic fibers that don’t break down. If you are concerned about the synthetic material then you can just empty out the tea leaves in the compost and discard the tea bag.
