Can You Compost Fruit & Vegetable Seeds?

Vegetable Fruit Seed Compost

Yes, fruit and vegetable seeds can be used as composting ingredients. Seeds would be considered green composting matter (source of nitrogen).

One concern people may have with putting seeds in the compost is the likelihood of germination. This could occur for plant species that can survive the heated compost environment, or if the compost is not maintaining the proper temperature. You shouldn’t be too concerned as any new seedlings that do pop up can be easily pulled out of the compost pile.

If you would like to avoid such a scenario then you could try crushing the seeds into smaller pieces before they are placed into the compost heap.
