Can You Compost Cooking Oil & Grease?

Cooking oil and grease could be added to compost heaps but only in small amounts. Cooking oil and grease would be considered green compost materials (source of nitrogen).

While cooking oil can be added to compost piles, they do come with several drawbacks. First, oil and grease, especially in large amounts, can attract pests and rodents (like rats) to the compost pile. Second, oil takes a long time to breakdown so it may not be suited for people who maintain small compost bins or compost heaps at home.
