Can You Compost Cotton Balls?

Yes, you can use cotton balls as a composting ingredient. The cotton balls, however, must be made of 100% cotton so check the packaging to make sure the cotton balls contain no synthetic fiber. Cotton balls would be considered brown composting ingredients (source of carbon).

What about cotton balls that have been used to wipe away make up? That should be fine as long as the make up doesn’t contain any chemicals that inhibit composting activity. Instead of using disposable cotton balls, consider using reusable flannel wipes to reduce waste at home.
