Can You Compost Stale Cereal?

Cereal Compost

Yes, stale cereal can be used as a compost ingredient. Cereal would be considered a brown compost ingredient (source of nitrogen). Some types of cereal may also provide a boost of nitrogen to the compost pile.

If you plan on using cereal in the compost heap then make sure that it is well covered. Cereal can attract unwanted guests like rats and other common household vermin. The cereal box, if made out of cardboard, can also be used as a compost ingredient.
