Are Fruit Flies Attracted to Light?

Insects Light

Yes, fruit flies are attracted to light. According to one study by researchers at University of Miami, fruit flies are attracted to different types of lights throughout the day. Fruit flies are attracted to green light in the morning and late afternoon, and attracted to red light during the midday.

What was surprising about this research study was that they also found that fruit flies don’t like blue light, which used to be a widely-accepted fact about fruit flies.

You could try getting rid of the fruit flies by using electronic bug zappers but you are more likely to succeed if you trap the tiny flying insects with a fermented fruit, vinegar, or wine trap.
